We all know that there are many good reasons for studying for an MBA.
Besides the fact that most of the top businesses or financial institutions
are ready to snap up business school graduates, an MBA can also give
you
the skills you need to start your own business or become a
consultant.
We also know that the road to becoming a business
school graduate is not
easy. In fact it takes serious commitment and a
great deal of hard work.
Most high fliers set their heart on the more
prestigious schools such as
Harvard and Wharton, but, considering the
amount of effort, not to mention
money, you will be investing in your
MBA, it makes sense to research as
many schools as possible to ensure
that you apply for admission to an
institution that meets all your
educational and aspirational needs.
To do this your decision
should not only be based on the school’s overall
ranking but also on
its category rating. So, for example, the school of
your choice might
only just make it into the top 25, but it could be in the
top 5 as far
as its e-business program is concerned.
Your choice could
also depend upon issues such as the culture of the
school; its
geographical location; the size of its campus; the class
profile and
class size; the career placement opportunities; the curriculum
offered
– whether specialized or general and, of course, the cost of
tuition.
So, how to make the all important decision?
Besides reading the school’s
brochures try talking to friends and
alumni, read the students blogs to see
what they have to say about the
school and its programs. Look up the
website of the schools you are
researching and see whether they have their
own newspaper or student
forum which you could tap into.
And, finally, when you have
made up your mind about the schools you want to
target, maximize your
chances with the ’Winning the MBA Admission Game’
